Deserializers for Broadcast Platforms

A deserializer is a transceiver that converts a serial stream of bits into a chunk of words (a word is 8 bits) or “parallel data” (e.g., for wide data buses.) Most often, an upstream serializer has converted parallel data into a serial stream of bits so that the data can be sent in a single stream of bits. This conversion into a serial stream facilitates point-to-point, high-speed data transmission over a flexible single-wire cable rather than a multi-conductor cable. The two are commonly used together to send data when throughput is limited, and are referred to as “SerDes” for “Serializer/Deserializer.”
